is there a significant difference between the HD component cable and the composite video cables? some of my other devices I could tell much of a difference.

I wouldn't say significant, but there is a noticeable difference between component video and composite video. It really depends on what your Wii is hooked up too.
If you have an HD TV and are use component cables to output video at 480p, your video is going to look great. With composite video, the video will seem less smooth and a bit more pixelated. But your mileage may vary.
